"Alfred F. Hurlburt August 14, 1914 - December 23, 2000 SWEA CITY-Funeral service for Alfred F. Hurlburt of Swea City, was held Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church at Swea City with the Rev. Wendi Gillanofficiating. Interment was in the Harrison Township Cemetery at Swea City, the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Swea City in charge of arrangements.
Alfred Hurlburt died Saturday, Dec. 23, (2000), in the Valley Vue Care Center at Armstrong at the age of 86.
The son of Fred and Ida Herke Hurlburt, Alfred was born Aug. 14, 1914 at Osgood; received his education in the country schools and graduated from the Emmetsburg High School. He attended Business College at Grand Island, NE,. and aftercompleting college worked as a bookkeeper for a hotel in Alliance, NE.
On June 6, 1937, Alfred was united in marriage to Marjorie Tucker in Harrisburg, NE, and shortly after their marriage, the couple moved back to Palo Alto County and he operated gas stations in Graettinger and Emmetsburg. In 1941, thefamily moved to a farm near Seneca, later to Wallingford, and then to Elmore, MN where Alfred farmed until 1965. He then managed the fertilizer plant at Ledyard; later owned and managed a motel in Eagle Grove for seven years until 1985.The couple moved to Humboldt for a short time before moving to Swea City where they have lived since. He enjoyed flower gardening, hunting, fishing and reading in his spare time.
Alfred was a member of the United Methodist Church at Swea City and was a lay speaker and taught Sunday School throughout the years at various churches.
Surviving him are his wife, Marjorie Hurlburt of Swea City; a son, James Francis Hurlburt, and wife, Marie of Apple Valley, MN; daughters, Nancy Haas and husband, Eldon of Elmore, MN, Joyce Kramer and husband, the Rev. Ron Kramer of DesMoines, and Kathy Hurlburt of Swea City. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Maynard and Mancil."
