Ed Ricks, 68, Passes After Lingering Illness
Mr. Ed Ricks was born on a farm near Waterloo, Iowa, on the third of November, 1872. After a lingering illness and repeated strokes he died in his farm home in German Township, Kossuth County, on January 9, 1941. Thus he attained an ageof 68 years, 2 months and six days.
While yet a small child he removed with his parents from the Waterloo neighborhood to Kamrar, Iowa. there he spent his boyhood days. When twenty years of age he moved to Kossuth County where he spent the rest of his life. Four yearsafter arriving in Kossuth County, on March 8, 1897, he was united in marriage with Gertie Bergman. During the past forty years they lived on the same farm where Mr. Ricks has but recently died.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ricks: Simon Ricks, Mrs. Ella Boeckholt, Mrs. Christian Uken, all of Titonka; Mrs. Edna Haringa, Buffalo Center; Edgar and George at home, and Mrs. Harmke Hrms of Wesley.
Saddened at his passing are his seven children, his widow, fourteen grandchildren, his half-sister Mrs. Bertus Janssen of Lakota, his half-brother, Albert Bosma of Lakota, other relatives and a host of friends.
Mr. Ricks was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends who have frequently said 'his word is a good as his signature.' In April, 1939, he suffered a stroke, he was never quite well after that, finally on sunday, January 5 hesuffered another stroke from the effects of which he died on Thursday morning at 8:20.
Funeral services were held in the Ramsey Reformed church with Pastor C. Schnucker officiating. Interment w\\took place in the Ramsey church cemetery on Sunday, January 12. ..." <>
