Notes for George Washington Keeler:
Ivan Woodrow's records indicate that George is buried in the Providence Twp. Cemetery, Lucas County, Ohio. George was a farmer most of his life, lived in and around Grand Rapids, Ohio. In his later years went to Mt. Clemens and lived with his son Perle (Pearl) and grandson George Richard Keeler. Perle and George were partners during the middle thirties to middle forties in a farming operation southwest of Mt. Clemens, where they farmed a section of land. George Washington was classified in their tax reports as a half time hired man during world war II. At this time George was in his late seventies. It was sometime after the partnership was dissolved at the end of WWII that George went to Temperance to live in a small house behind Will and Eva Keeler's place. It was here that he fell in 1959 and broke his hip. I was 16 years old when that happened. I remember Dad and Mom going to U of M hospital to see him. He had never been in a hospital in his life and had gone out of his mind. They had to strap him in bed, he lasted about 2 weeks before he died. Duane Cumper, Phillip Cumper, Richard Keeler, myself and I believe June Etta Weaver's husband and maybe Dolores Cybulski's husband were asked to be pall bearers. The Cumper's and my brother and I were his only male great grandchildren, except for Paul Scott Cumper who was only 7 or 8 years old at the time. I really didn't understand the significance of it at the time but there were a good many really old Keeler's at that funeral. I believe there was an Emma, Roy, Mae (Mary) and others. I feel badly now, that I didn't pay more attention.
