Darlene Marian Rhubee Wirtjes Kinkead, 97, formerly of Buffalo Center, IA, now of Seminole, FL; died Sun 15 Dec 2019. Graveside services were held at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center, 26 Jun 2021. Darlene was born on 7 Jan 1922 to Charles and Dicy Rhubee. She grew up on a farm near Raymond, MN, moved to Buffalo Center where she worked in the Hotel Cafe, and met her future husband Lawrence Wirtjes. They were married 1 May 1943, and lived in Rake, IA. They later moved to Buffalo Center where they had two daughters, Diana Wirtjes Wollam of Seminole, FL, and Mary Wirtjes Schutjer of Palm Harbor, FL.
After Lawrence died in 1977, she married Richard L Kinkead on 5 Apr 1980 in the Congregational Church in Buffalo Center.
Diana graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in 1966, and Mary graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in 1968.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her sister and her brother. Diana Wollam
The memorial service, luncheon, and tour of the museum was held in the Heritage Town Center, due to the rain. Pastor Peake gave the memorial service. Darlene was later buried at the cemetery, when the rain subsided. Diana mentioned that all the kids, and grandkids were able to attend the services."
