"I have a Kuhlwein, Kilwain, Kuehlewein, who came from Lambsheim, Germany buried on my farm in Pennsylvania, USA. He immigrated here in 1709, was a successful farmer and very active in the religious sect called the New-Born. He died in1737 here. His English first name was Philip."

"Philip was well established in Oley Township. We still have the log cabin in which he probably lived. His daughter married into the Reiff family which then owned the farm until the time when my family bought it during the Second World War. Although we do not know where Philip is buried, we do have his tombstone, stating that he died in, I believe, 1737. The tombstone has some aging but was in one of the farm buildings when we purchased the farm. It is very legible.

Philip was one of the earliest settlers here in the Oley Valley. He was, as I am given to understand, a member of a rather restive religious group which railed against most, if not all, of the local religious factions."
