Funeral services for Ehno Folkerts, 91, were Monday, February 23 at 1:30 p.m. in Ramsey REformed Church with Rev. Dennis Redeker officiating.
Casket bearers were Kenneth Roskamp, Larry Tegtmeyer, James Folkerts, Randall Folkerts, Denis Folkerts, and Dan Sleper.
Burial was in the church cemetery with the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Ehno died Friday, February 20, 1998 at the Titonka Care Center.
Ehno Folkerts was born on May 14, 1906 in Upleward, Ostfriesland, Germany, the seventh child of eleven children born to Ehno and Aje Van de Linde Folkerts. Ehno traveled to the U.S.A. abort the USS [sic] Columbus. The trip cost about$200.00, which was sent to him by his uncle George Folkerts from Ackley, Iowa. Ehno recalls arriving in America in September, 1924, when he was 18 years old. His first job was digging potatoes. The only English phrases he knew were,"yes", "no", "apple pie".
Ehno worked as a general laborer near Abbott, Iowa until his marriage to Elsie Smidt on February 24, 1932 at the Ramsey Reformed Church parsonage near Titonka. The couple moved to the Buell farm west of Titonka, where Ehno farmed untilhis retirement. This union was blessed with six children. Elsie died suddenly on September 8, 1961 at the age of 56. On January 18, 1964, Ehno was married to Myrtle Johnson. They lived their married life in Titonka. Myrtle died onJanuary 15, 1990 at the age of 79. Due to ill health, Ehno moved to the Titonka Care Center in 1990. He enjoyed visits from family and friends. Ehno was a member of the Ramsey Reformed church where he was a former Consistory member.He enjoyed fishing and gardening in his younger yearrs. Ehno died on Friday, February 20, 1998 at the Titonka Care Center.
Ehno is survived by his children, Anna Tegtmeyer and husband Donald of Britt; Wanda Roskamp of Worthington, MN; Frank Folkerts and wife Janice; Ronald Folkerts and wife Karen, all of Titonka , and Elaine Sleper and husband David of Columbia, MO. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Ehno was preceded in death by his parents, ten brothers and sisters; his son, Gary, his wife Elsie, his wife Myrtle and his son-in-law, PaulRoskamp."
