Military Service Commencement: 1775 SC
While residing in Camden District, he enlisted during the winter of 1775 for six weeks as a lieutenant under Captain John Gordon and Colonel Thomas Taylor. From March 1780 to November 1, 1781, he was a lieutenant under Captain John McKinney and Colonel Taylor. During 1782, he was under General Handerson. He was in an engagement at Mott's Hill, the siege of Ninety Six and the battle at Eutaw Springs. He assisted in the capture of Colonel Fletcher. (Moved to Tenn. and KY.)
Will:
Know all men by these present that I Thomas Hill of the county of Caldwell and the state of Kentucky, knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die and this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all other and former Will heretofore by me made.
FIRST; IT is my wish that my executers after my death see that my body be buried in a decent and Christian manner and that said executer pay the expense out of my estate and, SECOND; that all my just debts be punctually paid by said Executors.
THIRD; I give and bequeath unto my son THOMAS H. HILL one negro man named DANIEL and a negro women name JANE (be increase) and a child of JANES named JULY ANN to be his and his heirs forever after my death.
FIFTH; I give unto my daughter MARY HILL one negro woman named LEA and a negro girl named BELE and three negro boys namely JAMES, BOB and ARCHER in the following manner: The above devise to my daughter MARY HILL is to be held by my grandson WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL as trustee for the use and benefit of my said daughter MARY and after the death of my said daughter MARY HILL it is my Will and desire that the five Negroes which I have given to my daughter MARY HILL for her use and benefit and during her natural life to be held by the trustee herein before named LEA, BELE, JAMES, BOB and ARCHER shall by this Will after the death of my said daughter MARY HILL defend to be the property of my grandson, WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL and his heirs forever.
SIXTH; I give and bequeath unto my daughter SARAH MURRAY one negro woman KITTY and ten dollars to be hers and her heirs forever.
SEVENTH; I give and bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH McDANIEL twenty dollars and no more.
EIGHT ; I give and bequeath unto my grandson WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL one Negro man SIMON to be his forever.
NINTH; I give and bequeath unto my daughter NANCY WHITE one negro named FRANK and one negro woman PEGGY and her three children GREEN, JERRY, and JUDO and the future children that PEGGY might have to be hers and her heirs forever.
TENTH ; I give and bequeath to the children of my deceased son JONATHAN HILL and my grandson WILLIAM C. HILL a tract of land belonging to me know by the name of the Gordon Place which I purchased of EDWARD M. DEAN supposed to contain one hundred and sixty acres be the same more or less, one half of the aforesaid tract of land and give to my grandson WILLIAM C. HILL and the other half said tract land I give to Children of my deceased son JONATHAN HILL to be theirs forever.
ELEVENTH ; It is my Will and desire that my executers here after named shall as soon as can conveniently be done sell my personal estate which not herein before devised away in this Will upon such credit as they may deem reasonable also to collect my debts owed me ay my death and divide the same equally between my following named children; THOMAS H. HILL, JONATHAN HILL's children, MARY HILL, NANCY WHITE, CHRISTIANA WILSON and my grandson WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL and I do also give and bequeath unto my daughter CHRISTIANNA WILSON one woman named HERRIET and children that she may here after now in her possession to be her and her heirs forever.
TWELVE; It is my Will and desire that the money that come to my daughter MARY HILL by venture of the sale of any of my property by me directed to be sold by my executors or arising out of the collection of the debts that may be due me at my death shall rest in and be managed by grandson WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL as trustee in the manner stated in a former clause of this Will and shall there be any portion of said money for the use and support of my daughter MARY HILL it shall be the money of the said WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL after death of said MARY.
LASTLY; I do appoint my friend, ROBERT A. PATTERSON and my grandson WILLIAM WASHINGTON HILL, executors of this my last Will and Testament granting unto them powers to carry this my last Will and Testament into full effect in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day.

Thomas Hill's Will was probated January 10, 1837, however settlement was not made until 1960. The following is recorded on page 236 of the 1960 Will Book;
I, J. Newt Turner, Sale and Presiding Judge of the Caldwell County Court and exofficio commissioner to audit and settle the accounts of executors of said county this day proceed to settle with William W. Hill, Executor of Thomas Hill, Deceased, and find as per settlement made and now record in Inventory Book "J" page 56 a balance in the hands of said Executor for distribution among the several heirs the sum of------ $3014.77
I further find said Guardian is entitled to the following credits viz.
