Sir George Robert Osborn of Chicksands Priory, Bedfordshire was the eldest son of Sir John Osborn, 5th Baronet, DL. Sir George loved to travel, and spent little of his time living at Chicksands Priory. Several of his children were born abroad, Charlotte in Italy, Henry in Germany and Harriet in Belgium. He held the offices of Justice of the Peace for Bedfordshire, Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshir e. He also held the office of High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1857. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century, Chicksands Priory passed to the Snowe family and then, in 1576, to the Osborn family who owned it for almost 400 years. In 1936, Sir George's grandson sold the Priory to the Crown and it was developed into a signals intelligence unit and, more recently, a top sec ret intelligence base for the British Intelligence Corp.
