Revolutionary War Experience of Peter Bodenhamer recorded in a Revolutionary War Pension Application by his widow Agnes Spurgeon Bodenhamer. Extracts from the Pension Application (information provided by Jacob Bodenhamer in 1846, aged 75 years, brother of Peter Bodenhamer): “Peter Bodenhamer came to North Carolina in the year 1776 and settled in the then county of Rowan - now Davidson” “P eter Bodenhamer served as a private in the revolution in the militia of North Carolin under Captain Billngsly at some time previous to the arrival of General Gates with the Southern army into North Ca rolina.” “Peter at several times during the year 1780, served in the North Carolina militia, as a volunteer … the militia with which he acted was employed much of their time against the tories who were pretty numerous in some parts of the county & in some neighborhoods in Abbots creek” “When Peter was about home, he had frequently to lie out & conceal himself from the tories & he furth er recollects that on one occasion per was taken prison… but with the timely assistance of friends rescued himself” “Peter was drafted in the summer of 1780, and was afterwards in General Gates ’ Army previous to his defeat.” “Peter was in the militia in the year 1781 - that his sphere of action was principally confined to the neighboring counties against the numerous bands of tories then infecting the country.”
