He lived at Waipu until 1890, apart from two years spent in Australia. He married Annie MCLEAN, daughter of John and Mary MCLEAN, at Waipu, Northland, 10 November 1896. They had three children: Thelma Mary (1897), Edna Margaret (1899), and John Gordon (1903). an') and Annie farmed at Rewiti, north of Auckland, particularly poultry farming (raising 10,000 chicks annually). Annie did much of the work herself, rising at 5am and finishing at 9pm. Donald and Annie moved to Wolseley Street in Morningside, Auckland around 1924, when son, Gordon married.
