The following sources: Adventurers of Purse and Persons, Vol. 2 pg. 251-258 and Tidewater Virginia Families, pg. 328 record that Richard Hampton, last child of Capt John Hampton and Mary Mann was married twice, his first wife named Alice (?) and his second wife, Martha (?). We know from these records that Alice was his wife in February 1746, when Richard was about 58-60 years old, as Alice was witnessed to a land deed sale of the Caroline plantation then. And we know that sometime between 1746 and 1766, when Richard died, Alice had died and Richard remarried because his wife Martha was named in his will December 1766, along with his children, Elizabeth, Sarah, Martha, William, and Richard Jr. There are no definitive birth dates given for the children or who their mother was, but these dates are recorded, and inferences can be made:ing land. She must have died before 1812, because James remarried 8 April 1812 to Ann (Johnson) Johnson and married again 10 Dec 1830 to Mildred Bowcock.ried Dr. Richard Lingan Hall of Fauquier Co. who died before July 1774. that he was probably born before 1740, making Alice his mother, and the mother of his older siblings, his sisters Elizabeth, Sarah, and Martha.e 29 July 1761 and was a lieutenant in the French and Indian War (1754-1763) and a planter in Culpeper County in 1777. He died about 1810. We can estimate his birth probably around 1740 to 1742, but certainly not after 1746 when Alice was still alive, so Martha would not have been his mother either.
