LifeSketch: “Seymour R. Powell, who came early to Effingham County, was a master carpenter and was around when the first county seat was being formed at Ewington. He cried the sale of the first lots sold in Ewington. In April 1832 he went off to war against Black Hawk in General James D. Henry’s Spy Batallion and was mustered out of this short war at Dixon, Illinois, August 15, 1832.
