LifeSketch: Evening Post - 18 December 1876DS at MANGOUNI - DEATH BY DROWNINGthe crops, especially to the natives who have their cultivations near the banks of the rivers. One settler lost fifteen sheep by the flood, and another, named Harper, lost his life. It appears he went down with two of his sons to get a calf that was tied near a small creek, called the Red Rock Creek, and, after doing so, remained to repair the fence, and it is thought he had taken a fit, and fallen into the creek. His wife found him shortly afterwards, and, with great difficulty got him out, having to remain nearly an hour in the creek till the water rose high enough to float the body out. An inquest was held on the following day, before Mr. White and nine of a jury, of which Mr. Adamson was foreman, when a verdict of "Accidentally drowned while labouring under a fit," was returned. He leaves a wife and four young children to mourn his loss.—[Correspondent.]
