LifeSketch: In 1880 Census he was 30 years old and a school teacherR, DEADn of the board of the Ohio Merchants Trust company, a director and officer in a number of corporations and a prominent figure in the business, financial and industrial life of Massillon and Stark county for the past 39 years, died Tuesday evening at 6:30 o'clock at his residence, 309 Fourth street, NE., after an illness of eight days.clock at the family residence, and will be in charge of Massillon Commandery, No. 4, Knights Templar. The body will be placed in the family vault at the Massillon cemetery. his widow, Mrs. Mary L. Taggart; four daughters, Mrs. George Chapman, of Oak Park., Ill., Mrs. Charles Clark, of Lima, Mrs. W. At various times he was a director of the Midland bank, of Cleveland, the Peerless Drawn Steel, Macomber Steel, Massillong Rolling Mill, Beans Spring, Central Steel, Massillon Iron and Steel companies of this city, and the National Sanitary company of Salem. He was president of the Merchants National bank when that institution was merged with the Ohio Banking and Trust company.. He attended district school and then went to Mt. Union college at Alliance, of which it was said he wa the youngest ever to receive a diploma. Before coming to Massillon to engage in the banking business he was superintendent of schools of Canal Fulton.nk of this city, organized in June of that year. He has been associated with the bank ever since, and has risen through the offices of cashier, and president to be chairman of the board of directors of the Ohio-Merchants Trust company.rk, and 1917 was appointed to the Council of American Banker's association, a national organization, membership in which is considered a high honor. He still holds his membership in the Canal Fulton Blue Lodge, having been the first member to receive a degree in the lodge after its organization. He is eminent past comander of the local lodge and at the time of his death was treasurer of the commandery. He attends St. Timothy's Episcopal church.Lyon, of this city. Among his survivors are 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
