Keith Frederick Anderson (1895 - 1972) enlisted in the AIF at Broadmeadows, Victoria on 19Aug1914, was given the service number 516 and was initially marked for service in the 8th Battalion.
He stated he was born at Horsham, Victoria, was 19 years 5 months of age, was unmarried, and his previous occupation was as a farmer.
He nominated his father, Andrew Anderson of Pomonal, via Stawell, Victoria as his NOK. He declared he had never been convicted by the Civil Power, nor had he ever been rejected as unfit for His Majesty's Service.
He stated that he had served with the Citizen Forces. He was 5' 8" tall, weighed 10 st 8 lbs, had fair complexion and hair and blue eyes. His religion was presbyterian.
There were two scars on the palm of his left hand. On 24Aug1914 at Broadmeadows, he was considered fit for active service.
Keith embarked Melbourne for overseas service on 19Oct1914, embarking on HMAT A24 "Benalla". He then embarked Alexandria on 5Apr1915 on board "Clan McGilverry" to join the Gallipoli Campaign. From 21Oct1914 Keith allotted 2 shillings per day from his pay to his Father.
At Gallipoli on 28Jun1915 Keith was sick, Influenza, and was admitted to 26th Casualty Clearing Station on 1Jul1915, rejoining his unit on 9Jul1915.
He returned from Gallipoli on 7Jan1916 on board the Empress of Britain disembarking Alexandria, and on 30Jan1916 Keith was transferred from 8th Battalion to the Camel Corps at Serapeum.
He was admitted to No 4 Auxilliary Hospital, Abbassia, (mumps) on 4Feb1916 and rejoined his unit on 26Feb1916.
Keith was again sick and sent to hospital at Sollum, septic knee, on 28Dec1916 and was discharged from Brigade Field Ambulance for return to duty on 3Jan1917.
On 17Jun1917 at Ismalia Keith was admitted to the hospital suffering an Abscess Arm and was returned to duty on 18Jun1917. He was promulgated temporary Lance Corporal on 8Apr1918, Temporary Corporal on 9Arr1918 and Corporal on 25Apr1918.
On 13 May 1918, Keith was admitted to 14 Aust Hospital at Port Said, suffering from Debility. He rejoined the 14 LH brigade at Moascar on 21Jul1918.
Keith was appointed Lance Sergeant on 28Oct1918.
He embarked at Suez on board "Port Darwin" on 15Nov1918 for return to Australia, Leave, disembarking Melbourne on 24Dec1918.
Keith Anderson received his British War Medal at Stawell on 15Apr1921, his 1914-15 Star on 20 Sep1921, and his Victory Medal on 25Apr1922
