Hannah Maria was born in Darlington in 1862 and lived at home until her marriage on 21 December 1882 to the joiner, Edward Henry Young, who originated from Lincoln.

Hannah had eight children but only six are known, 2 boys and 4 girls. After their marriage, Hannah and Edward moved to West Hartlepool.

This was probably because the shipping industry provided plenty of work for skilled joiners towards the end of the 19th century.

In 1891 Hannah and Edward were living at 8 Gill Street, Stranton, W. Hartlepool. They had a daughter Edith Mary aged 6 and a son Ernest Barker just 4 months old.

They had already lost a little girl called Hannah Maria, after her mother, just before the census was taken. She was less than a year old.

When the 1901 census was taken the couple were living at 13 Rodney Street, West Hartlepool. They now had five children with the addition of Harold Henry, Ethel Hannah and baby Emily Gladys. Sadly they were to lose Harold in 1907 aged 14.

In 1911 they had moved to 46 Surtees Street, West Hartlepool. Edward was working as a cabinet maker. This census confirmed Hannah had given birth to eight children, losing two of them.

At some point in later years, Edward and Hannah moved to live in Swindon where they both lived to a ripe old age. Edward died in 1951 aged 95 and Hannah Maria died in 1956 aged 94.

Their eldest known child, Edith Mary Young, was born in Hartlepool in 1884. She married Henry William Weighell in Hartlepool in 1906.

Henry was a farmer and in 1911 they were living at Skerne House Farm, Blackwell where they appear to have remained until their deaths.

They had three children, John Edward born in 1907, Alfred Henry born on 29 May 1910 and Edith G. born in 1912.

Henry Weighell died on 15 December 1936 aged 55 at Skerne House Farm. His widow Edith Mary died not long afterwards in 1937 aged 53.

Their eldest son John Henry was also a farmer. He married Alice Alderson in 1933 and had a daughter and a son.

John Henry died quite young, aged 45, on 3 January 1952 in the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.

His home address was Poplar Farm, Langthorne, Bedale. The administration was granted at Durham on 18 March 1952 to Alice Weighell, widow and Fred Hope Wilson, news agent.

Effects totalled £8,578 15s. 5d. Alice died in 1986 aged 80. John's brother Alfred Henry married Annie Laybourn in 1933 at Darlington R.O. They had four sons.

Alfred died in Richmond in 1977 aged 66. Annie died in Darlington in 1993 aged 81. Edith and Henry's daughter, Edith G., married Stanley Nixon Ellerton in 1933 at Darlington R.O. They had a daughter in 1937. Edith died in Darlington in 1967 aged 55 and Stanley died in 2003 aged 94.

Hannah Maria and Edward's son Ernest Barker Young, was born in Hartlepool in 1891. He married Nora Ingram in 1927 and they had two daughters. Ernest died in Hartlepool in 1954 aged 63 and Nora died in 1968 aged 78.

Hannah Maria's daughter Ethel Hannah Young was born in 1895. She married Frank Clapp in 1925 in Hartlepool, but they do not appear to have had children. Ethel died in Swindon in 1962 aged 67 and Frank died in Bournemouth in 1972 aged 73.

The youngest of Hannah and Edward's known children was Emily Gladys born on 17 November 1899 in Hartlepool.

She married John Albert Clapp who was Frank's younger brother. Again there is no evidence they had any family either.

John died in 1967 aged 67 and his death was registered in Durham S.E. Emily died in 1998 aged 98. Her death was registered in Northumberland. (Beryl Wilson 31 March 2016).
