Kind(eren):
We know about Simchas decendents from three sourses. Unbroken Chain by Neil Rosenstein (Vol. I p. 590) tell us about two sons. Name of the first son is unknown. We have only his sons (Simchas grandsons) name Simcha Katzenellenbogen of Bialystok and grandsons name Israel Katzenellenbogen of Bialystok (1837 - 1888). Second son is R. Joshua Heshel Katsenellenpogen of Brest Litovsk. His son (Simchas grandson) is Simcha Joel Katsenellenpogen of Brest Litovsk with son R. Zvi Hirsh Katsenellenpogen, A.B.D. of Slawatycze, from 1864 till his death in 1890. And it was large Katzenelenbogen family based in Lubavichi spread to Orsha, Rogachev (including Mihael Katzenelenbogen, husband of Mume Sore), Riga, Moscow. Katzenelenbogen from Lubavichi first mentioned in 1850s. It is a problem that notes from Lubavichi in NIAB (Belarus State Archive) is mostly absent. We know about them from archive records, newspaper Mogolevskie Gubernskie Vedomosti (Mohilev Gubernia News) and open sourses. I suppose progentor of this line was Joshua Heschel Katzenellenpogen of Brest. It's only Joshua from large Katzenellenbogen family born around 1800 to be a father of Abram Gamsheev (means son of Gamshey). Gamshey is Russian version of Joshua (Yehoshua). And logic of names of Lubavichi family also tells for this progentor. Names Abram (like great grandfather and brother of Joshua Heschel), David (like grandfather of Joshua Heschel), Gamshey, Itska (like nephew of Joshua Heschel) were highly spread in Lubavichi. And it was Yankel Yesel like brother Yankel and nephew Iossel Tzemach of Joshua Heschel. I look for any info about this family. Victor
