Hilda Henrietta Thiessens Edney, 96, of Lake James, Nebo, was escorted through the veil by her sweetheart, James Grayson, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sept. 24, 1925, she wasthe eldest daughter of Hermannus Thiessens and Henderika Folkers Thiessens. Hilda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from the Salt Lake City School Systemas well as Salt Lake City Business School. She met her sweetheart while he was stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Utah during World War II. They were married Nov. 1, 1943, and celebrated their 76-year wedding anniversary in 2019. In 1982, she retired as bookkeeper for Ingles Markets. After retirement, she co-owned/operated Lake James Family Campground with her husband, daughter, and son-in-law. Mrs. Edney is survived by her daughter, Elaine Edney Orders; sons, Dennis J. Edney (Leslie) and Dean A. Edney (Beth); granddaughters, Melissa C. Edney and Chastity E. Stapleton (Jethro); grandsons,Matthew J. Orders (Beth), Grayson A. Edney, and Lucas D. Edney (Megan); great-grandsons, Lance M. Orders and Xavier D. Edney; great-granddaughter, Opal E. Edney; and numerous cousins and extended family. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, James Grayson Edney; infant son, Donald G. Edney; brothers, Folkert "Ted" Thiessens (Margaret), Herman "Hank" Thiessens (Phyllis), and Joseph Thiessens; and sisters, Ruth Thiessens Meacham (Paul) and Grace Thiessens Sheldon (Dave). The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Church of JesusChrist of Latter-day Saints, 901 Bethel Rd. in Morganton. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. in the church.
