REV JOHN MOKMA, RETIRED, EXPIRES Was Christian Reformed Pastor for Many Years Rev. John H. Mokma, 73 years old, of 1258 Apple Avenue, a retired Christian Reformed minister, died today at Hackley hospital after an illness of two weeks. He had lived here for 10 years. Born Aug. 18, 1868 in Graafschap, he was graduated in 1908 from Calvin College seminary, Grand Rapids after which he served for many years as a minister in the Christian Reformed denomination. His first pastorate was at Overisel, then at Munster, IN and also in Chicago for a number of years. He later accepted a call to the SecondChristian Reformed church at Fremont and prior to coming to Muskegon, ministered in the Christian Reformed church at Sullivan. In late years he attended the Gospel hall. In 1890 he was married to Elizabeth Witvliet at Vriesland. She died in May of 1925. He later married Gertrude Geerds at Fremont, who died in Muskegon, June 27, 1935. He leaves two daughters and one son of his first marriage, namely Mrs. Ralph Stob of Grand Rapids, Mrs. A.B. Lewen of Margaretville, NY, and John Elson Mokma of Niles; and three children by his second marriage, David, Stephen and Myrtle Mokma; three brothers, William and Jerry Mokma of Holland, and Fred Mokma of CA; one sister, Mrs. E.S. Greenbaum of Montreal, Canada; and three grandchildren. Might have been published in the Grand Rapids Press.
