https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/lillian-watland-obituary?pid=177265417&view=guestbook BIOGRAPHY At the age of 88 years, Lillian Watland, beloved wife of the late Reynold Watland of Norquay, passed away at the Regina General Hospital on January 6, 2016. Lillian Evelyn, the second oldest daughter of Wallace and Gertie (Stavast) Rever, was born February 18, 1927 in the farm home in the Maloneck District, north of Pelly. She received grades one through eight education from the Belleau Brook school and then attained grades nine through eleven by correspondence. Following her schooling, she worked as hired help for families in the area. On October 30, 1946, in her parents' home, she was united in marriage to Reynold Watland. Their first home was a mud plastered log house which they spenttheir honeymoon renovating so that Reynold could stand upright in the doorways. Throughout the first few years of their marriage, Lillian worked as a tree planter in the reforestation program; she also picked and sold mossberries, made butter and sold eggs to earn additional income. Reynold and Lillian were blessed with three children. Their first child, Elaine, was born in Norquay on December 20, 1948; their second child, Joy, was born November 14, 1951 and their son, Brian, was born on December 27, 1955. Reynold operated his own sawmill and Lillian cooked for the crew, which consisted of upto fourteen men. Lillian baked all her own bread and washed clothes by hand (with water from melted snow) as well as taught Elaine correspondence. She was active in community affairs including the UCW and the Snow Plow Club, in which they raised money by putting on a play and performing in the neighboring towns. Her family was her focus and she excelled in providing a loving environment for them.Lillian was kept busy with baking, cooking, gardening and being a farmer's wife until 1993 when they retired and moved to their new home in Norquay. She continued to garden and provide a welcoming home for them and their expanding family. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother gave her great enjoyment in her later years. She resided in her own home until her passing on January 6, 2016. She will be dearly and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Gertie and Wallace; husband, Reynold, brothers: John, Gordon, Allen and Russell; sisters, Charlotte and Minnie and her son-in-law, Ken Schick. She is survived by her children: Elaine Schick, Joy (Brian) Hubic and Brian Watland; seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian andsisters-in-law: Senora, Sheila, Marion and Jean as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. from the Norquay United Church, with Velda Dahlin officiating. Interment of Cremated Remains will follow at a later date. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation or to the N.I.C.E.Centre, Norquay, SK as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Lillian Watland.
