Mox (or Max) moved to California as an infant and in 1884 (1882) went to Philomath, Oregon by team and wagon. He later moved to near Albany, Oregon on the Poor Farm Road and finally into Albany in 1909 where he did draying and trucking. For ten years he was sexton for the Albany Masonic Cemetery. Mox was possibly the illegitimate son of Michael Hoflich and Helena Dora "Lena" Worth, Michael's stepdaughter. Christina Wilhelmina (Engelhorn) Hoflich was his paternal grandmother. In a letter to Bob Saunders, Harold Hoflich (Mox's nephew) stated the following; "My mother [Myrtle Maxwell Hoflich] told me this in great secrecy, but I have never tried to check its accuracy. These little informalities show up in the best of families. Please do not misunderstand me; this irreguarlity inno way affects my respect and liking for uncle Max." [See my note "Mox Hoflich's parentage," in Colaborate section. JAE]
