RAUT (PRENTICE), PHYLLIS A., Age 95, passed away on June 28, 2013, at Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, Michigan. Phyllis was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 18, 1918, the daughter of Bearl O. and Dorothy (Medema) Prentice. Phyllis was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert G. Raut, and two brothers, Dr. Edwin W. and Frederick L. Prentice. Phyllis and Bob were classmates since elementary school at East Jackson. After graduation from Jackson Business College, she held several secretarial positions throughout her career, many with Jackson Public Schools. After retiring, Phyllis enjoyed researching the Raut and Prentice genealogy back to Mayflower ancestors. Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a charter member and past president of P.E.O., Chapter DM; member of the Women's Club of Jackson; member of the Friends of Jackson District Library; and in later years, member and president of the Lion's Club for the Visually Handicapped. Survivors include her son, John C. (Kathleen) of Spring Arbor; grandchildren, John M. (Becky) of Jackson, Krista (Chris) Dury of San Ramon, California; great-grandchildren, Adam M. Raut, Lauren N. Raut, Gavin A. Dury, and Brennan R. Dury; and many nieces and nephews. At Phyllis's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in the parlor of the First United Methodist Church, on Thursday, July 11th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with memorial service following in the church chapel. The family wishes to thank all her caregivers at John Ganton's Countryside. In lieu of flowers, Phyllis requested that contributions may be made to P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund, Jackson County Department on Aging, or Lion's Club of Jackson.
