WILLMAR — Dirk H. Medema, 86, of Willmar died Thursday at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.

WILLMAR — Dirk H. Medema, 86, of Willmar died Thursday at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Willmar Christian Reformed Church. Interment will be at Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Willmar Christian Reformed Church and for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Memorials to the Willmar Kiwanis Club or the Willmar Christian Reformed Church are preferred. Funeral arrangements are with Tri-County Funeral Home in Prinsburg.
Dirk Heine Medema was born April 8, 1924, on the family farm in Holland Township, Kandiyohi County, the son of Heine and Tryntje (Marcus) Medema. He grew up and received his education in the Prinsburg community and graduated from Clara City High School in 1942. Dirk was employed for over 28 years by Anderson Oil Company in Willmar and then employed at Highway Furniture in bookkeeping for over 28 years, retiring as manager in 1986. Following his retirement, Dirk worked part time for ACMC in the bookkeeping and record department.
Dirk was a member of Willmar Christian Reformed Church in Willmar where he served as a deacon and Friendship Bible Study instructor. He was a 50-plus-year member of the Willmar Kiwanis Club and a past member and president of the Willmar Jaycees andToastmasters. Dirk also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and People on Watch.
Dirk was a great friend and helper to many. He enjoyed visiting with friends at Frieda’s Cafe, attending Tuesday Kiwanis meetings and assisting with the Kiwanis roadside clean-up program.
He is survived by one sister, Tena Waterman of Prinsburg; his nieces and nephews, Cal (and Diane) Miner of Willmar, Harvey (and Donna) Miner of Milbank, S.D., Arvin (and Julie) Miner of Forest Lake, Harlan (and Betty) Waterman of Watertown, S.D., Odell Waterman of Bakersfield, Calif., Twyla (and Charles) Sietsema of Danube, Charlyn (and Merle) Sietsema of Raymond and Craig Waterman of Raymond; several great-nieces and great-nephews, and his good friend, Lillian Stewart of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry Medema; sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Don Miner; brother-in-law, Charles Waterman and special friend, Ruth Hildahl.
