Thelma Astle Beyeler died Dec 27, 1999 in Salt Lake City following a stroke. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec 30, 1999 in the Grover LDS Chapel with interment in the Grover Cemetery.
Thelma was born in Providence UT on Jan 18, 1928 to John Francis Astle Jr. and Laura Thelma Carling Astle. That fall the family moved to Grover where she grew up and graduated from Star Valley High School in 1946. The family lived on a farm and her parents taught her to be a good, honest, dependable worker. There were 10 children in the family, five from a previous marriage and five born to her mother Laura. Thelma was the sixth child.
Thelma had a fun sense of humor and delighted in teasing her brothers and sisters. She always had a new prank to try on them. They remember her package of spring loaded gum. When you pulled a stick of gum from it, your finger got snapped in a tiny mouse trap. She also had rubber chocolates and a can of nuts with a cloth covered snake that jumped out at them.
She married Gordon Ralph Beyeler on Jan 10, 1949 at Pocatello. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in 1961.
Thelma continued her education after she was married, attending art school, cooking school and beauty school. She did well in each of these talents. She also enjoyed music and singing. In 1951 Gordon and Thelma moved to California where Gordon worked for Savon Drug. This is where their four children were born, Karen, Brett, Edward and Steven. She loved her family very much.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. She and Gordon spent many enjoyable hours serving in the temple.
Her beloved husband, Gordon died Dec 7, 1972. Thelma and her family continued to live in California until 1976 when they moved to Grover. She was a clerk at Nield Market for several years and also was a cook for the Afton Schools.
She loved to travel and one of her special memories was touring Europe with her daughter Karen in 1980, at the end of Karen's mission to Germany. She also enjoyed a cruise to Alaska with her son Steven in 1990.
In 1986 Thelma moved with her family to the Salt Lake City area where she worked for ZCMI for 11 years. She earned several awards as outstanding employee while working for them.
She is survived by her children, Karen, Brett, Edward, and Steven, a granddaughter and brothers Leon, Dee and Kay.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Elmo, Boyd and Junior and sisters Jean, Francis and Atelia.
