He studied at the University of Basel, where he received his doctorate in 1592 with a juristicl dissertation. (a printed copy of this dissertationis located in the town library to Leeuwarden). He succeeded his elder brother, who is also attested in 1584 in Basel. This is known there Innocentius,but rightly P. Bartels identifies him as Onnius Wiarda, who later became professor of law at Erfurt. After his return from Basel Dothias Wiarda practicedas Doctor of Law, in 1594 married Rebecca Zernemann and was appointed in 1595 to the Syndic of Emden. He was the first syndic of the city and oweshis election to the revolutionary processes in the Ems-city, which were founded in the well-known tensions between town and territorial ruler.

Zij zijn getrouwd in het jaar 1594 te Bremen, hij was toen 29 jaar oud.
