Colin Mor(Big)Campbell is the son of Gillespic Archibald Campbell of Menstrie and Affrica "Afriag & Errick" Carrick.

Colin Campbell married Janet Isabell StClair Sinclair about 1252.

In 1260 Colin Campbell was Knighted by Alexander III making Colin the 9th Knight of Lochow.

In 1291 Colin was a nominee on the part of Robert the Bruce for the crown of Scotland.

Colin Mor Campbell was killed by an archer of Alexander MacDougall, Lord of Lorne, his powerful neighbor. The battle took place in an area called String of Lorne, where a cairn still marks the spot. The battle was fought between Clan Campbell and Clan MacDougall over lands. The battle is often called Battle of Red Ford, because the water ran red from the blood of the many men from both sides wounded and dead, or Battle of String of Lorne.

The body of Colin Mor Campbell was removed after the battle to the Church of St. Peter The Deacon now known as Kilchrenan Parish Church in Kilchrenan, Lochawe, Argyllshire, Scotland and buried there.

There are two markers at his grave site, one stands upright against the church building while the other and much new one lays flat against the ground with a long sword on the top. The stone which stands upright is covered in lichen and very difficult to read, it may be the original stone. The stone laying flat on the ground reads "Cailean Mor, slain on the Streang of Lorne, A.D. 1294." This stone may have placed there about 1866, while some say it dates back to 1500.
