Christian King was bp. 29 Mar. 1724, Scoonie p., res, Coalhill, . of John King & Agnes Forker [165]. It is believed that she is the one who m., 17 Mar. 1749, Inveresk p., James Archibald, after being proclaimed there 25 Feb. Witnesses were John Lindsay, for man, and Robert King, brother, for woman [76]. It is believed that the above m. refers to the ancestor, as her first dau. was named Agnes, although her third son was named John. Her older brother, Robert, who witnessed at her m., had been living with his family in Inveresk p. at the time, since he had a dau., Elizabeth, bp. there 16 Aug. 1747 [151]. It is possible Robert was an influence on his sister, Christian, and her husband in later moving to Inveresk p. from Scoonie p. She was buried in Inveresk p. 28 Dec. 1787 as Christian King, relict to deceased James Archibald, coalhewer in the Cowpits [148].

      About the Book

This book is a work of over 30 years research of records of coalmining parishes of Scotland in the counties of Midlothian, Fife, West Lothian, East Lothian, Lanark, and Stirling; the counties of Northumberland and Durham in England, and a few areas of Australia.

The families include ANDERSON, ARCHIBALD, BLACK, BOYD, BROWN, CHEYNE, CRAWFORD, CUNNINGHAM, FLEUCKER, JACK, JOHNSTON, KING, LINDSAY, LOURIE, MILLER, MOFFAT, NEILSON, PENTLAND, PORTEOUS, REID, ROBERTSON, RUSSEL, SMITH, STEEL, WALKER, WILLIAMSON, WILSON, and others. Many of them are traced back well over 300 years. Each line, treated alphabetically, is fully documented with sources used, contains supportive evidence, and an index of complete names. Some information on Scottish family research, and on Scottish coalminers, is also given.

The book is 293 pages, hardcover, and is illustrated.
