November 23, 1452: "Henry VI ennobles his Tudor half-brothers Edmund of Hadham and Jasper of Hatfield, who become the Earls of Richmond and Pembroke respectively. It was the first step of officially inducting the Tudors into a weak Lancastrian Royal Family which had been depleted by the deaths of the King's childless uncles, the dukes of Clarence, Bedford and Gloucester.
The two titles bestowed upon Edmund and Jasper were themselves significant as they had been previously held by two of the aforementioned uncles, and were given with the provisio the Tudors were elevated above all over earls in precedence, just below the few dukes of the realm.
Both men were also handed their own coats of arms, which featured the royal arms of their brother differenced only by a border, which in Edmund's case featured the French fleurs-de-lis and in Jasper's case the martlet. Although not of English royal blood, Henry VI's was clearly making everyone aware they were members of the royal family, entitled to bear his own arms.
As earls, both men also required a landed estate from which to support their status, with Edmund handed the castle and honour of Richmond with lands extending through Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, whilst Jasper's territories were chiefly based in South Wales, including the mighty Pembroke Castle, as well as Baynard's Castle in London.
The creation of Edmund and Jasper Tudor solidified both mens loyalty to the House of Lancaster, of which they now had a vested interest in ensuring remained on the throne of England. It was a loyalty both men would uphold until each of their respective deaths." - The Henry Tudor Society (https://www.facebook.com/HenryTudorSociety)

28th January 1457 - Birth of Henry Tudor.
Henry Tudor - later Henry VII - was the only son of Lady Margaret Beaufort and Edmund Tudor, 1st Earl of Richmond. He was born on 28th January 1457 at Pembroke Castle in Wales. His father had died of the plague 3 months before his birth. His mother was just 13 years old. Tudor's half-uncle, Henry VI was deposed when Tudor was just 4 years old, and consequently he spent a large part of his early life in exile in Brittany with his uncle Jasper Tudor, before returning to England in 1485 in a bid to take the throne. His army, including 2,000 French mercenaries, were victorious at the Battle of Bosworth, and his victory led to the birth of the Tudor dynasty.
