The Courts of Richebourg are a recorded Huguenot family in France of the 1600's. descendants of this line include Isaac Porcher, a physician, and Claude Philippe de Richbourg, a minister.
Louis XIV, of France, revoked the Edict of Nantes on 08 Oct. 1685. This deprived his Protestant subjects, the Huguenots, of civil and religious liberty and subjected them to persecution by the Roman Catholic Church. More than 400,000 Huguenots fled France to England, Holland , Germany, and other places where they would be free to worship God in their own manner.
Claude Philippe de Richbourg and his relative Isaac Porcher, sought refuge in England. They later migrated to America in 1699, Richbourg becoming minister of the Huguenot settlement at Manakin Town on the James River. In 1708, many of the Huguenot settlers formed a new settlement near the Trent River in North Carolina. They were driven from their homes on 11 Sept. 1711 by the Tuscarora and Coree Indians. The Huguenots fled to the Province of South Carolina to an established French village of Jamestown on the Santee River. Richbourg made his home near the Huguenot Church where he ministered from 1715 until his death.
