Will of Gabriel Gignilliat.
"In the Name of God Amen" "I, Gabriel Gignilliat of the Parish of St. John's, Berkeley County, in South Carolina, being by the Blessing of God in good Health and Sound Mind and Memory, calling to Min d the Mortality of all Men, do make this my last Will and Testament. Imp loring the Mercy of my Almighty God and mercyfull Saviour to forgive me all my Sins, and to receive my Soul into his Heavenly Kingdom, First, I will, that my Body be Decently buried, and that all my lawful Debts be paid.

Item. I will that my dearly beloved Children, Gabriel, Elizabeth and Esther Gignilliat be educated in the best Mannes that my Estate can afford. I give and bequeath to my well beloved Sister Maryann Gignilliat the sum of two hundred Pounds Sterling Money, or the Value there of in South Carolina Currency.

Item. I give devise and bequeath to my dear beloved Son Gabriel Gignilliat all and singular the lands whereon I now live known by the Name of Limespring, also one other Tract of Land or Plantation on the North Side of Santee River, containing two hundred Acres of Land, situated, between Lands of the Estates of Messrs. Gabriel and Peter Marion Deceased, also one other Tract of Pine Lane, bought of Mr. Joseph Palmer, containing five hundred Acres. It is my Will that all the Remainder of my lands be sold, and the money arising therefrom be equally divided between my Daughters Elizabeth and Esther Gignilliat. I will that my well beloved Brother Benjamin Gignilliat, may if he chooses, take in lieu of commissions allowed by Law to Executors, one fourth part of the yearly neat Proceeds of all Produce made and sold for the Benefit of my Children above named.

Item. I will that all the Rest, Remainder and Residue of my Estate be equally divided among and between my son Gabriel and my Daughters Elizabeth and Esther Gignilliat. It is my Will that if any of my Children die before they marry or arrive to the age of twenty-one years that his or her Part shall be equally and impartially divided among the Survivonrs of my Children.

Item. I will that my children Gabriel, Elizabeth and Esther, shall if so they choose, take their Part of my Estate at the Time of their Marriage or when they arrive to the age of twenty-one years no t with standing. I will that my son Gabriel shall not be at Liberty to bargain for, sell or alienate any Part of my Estate herein left him, till he arrives at the age of twenty-one years. Lastly I d o appoint my well beloved Brother Benjamin Gignilliat Executor of this my last Will and Testament during his natural Life, also my beloved Kinsman John Palmer Junr., Thos. Palmer Son of Capt. John Palmer and Thomas Cordes, Son of Mr. Samuel Cordes , I do appoint, Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and I do hereby revoke, annul and make void, all other and former Wills and Testaments. In Witness hereof I the said Gabriel Gignilliat have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this sixteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty.
