" From his father, he and his brother Benjamin together inherited 3,020 acres in the parishes of St. John Berkeley and St. Thomas & St. Dennis. Included in the inheritance was the 890 acre plantation , Bonneau's Ferry, on the Cooper River. Samuel later came into sole possession of Bonneau's Ferry. In 1772, he received a 100-acre grant adjoining his Cooper River property . During the 1770s he took out 754 acres in grants in the upper portion of Craven County . He had two working plantations - one on the Cooper manned by 53 slaves and one on the Santee manned by 29 slaves - and two lots and a house on King Street in Charleston. However, Bonneau's Ferry in St. John Berkeley was his principal residence. The parish chose him in a special election for the Twenty-First Royal Assembly (1754-1757) and he qualified 25 February 1755.
