Notities over George Smith

Claims to have said "He arrived from Dartmouth, England in 1684 with his parents and brother and two servants, Phillis and Elizabeth Adams. George received a medical degree from Edinburgh, Scotland in 1700. George is in Charleston as late as 1743. One source says that George later moved to Jamaica. He had moved to Philadelphia by 1752. Other sources say that he was called "The American" because he was born in Charleston in 1672, after his family had arrived in 1671 and that he died in 1751. George was the first native South Carolina to receive a college degree. He received his medical equipment from the Will of his father, Thomas Smith, Sr. One source says he had more than 12 children.
