In The Name of God Amen; I David Adams of Wadmalaw Island in the province aforesaid, being weak in body but of perfect and sound memory, Thanks be to God for it and considering the Uncertainty of this present Life & knowing that it is appointed to all Men once to die, I do make and ordain this and no other to be my last Will and Testament that is to say that First of all I recommend my Soul unto God who gave it in Hopes of a glorious Resurrection unto eternal Life and my Body I recommend to the Earth from whence it was taken to be buried after a decent and Christian Manner at the discretion of my Executors herein mentioned. And as touching such Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with, I give and bequeath in Manner and Form the following; Item. My Will and Desire is that all my just Debts and funeral charges be first paid. Item. I give and Bequeath unto my Son Barnard Adams the Tract of Land I now live on and the Tract of Land I bought from Mr. Daniel Townsend to him and his Heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my Son Will Adams that Tract of Land laying between my Brother Benjamin Jenkings and the Place I now live on to him and his Heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Barnard Adams, Jack, Rose, Flora, Will; they and their increase forever. I give and bequeath unto my son William Adams, Syrus; Will, Isaac, Jamy, Nan; Island Rose, Prince and their increase forever. Item. I give all my wearing apparel, Household & kitchen Furniture to be equally divided between my three Sons Nathaniel, David, and Barnard Adams. Item. It is my Will and Desire that my three Sons Nathaniel, David, and Barnard Adams shall build my son William Adams a house and Kitchen upon any Part of the Land he thinks proper with good Materials & a Brick Chimney to the Dwelling House and Kitchen, to be the same dimensions of the House and Kitchen I now live in and a Corn and Pea House. Item. I leave the island on Muskeeto Creek and the House and land in Charles Town to be sold at Vandue and all the moneys arising therefrom to be equally divided between my four Sons Nathaniel, David, Barnard and William Adams and their Heirs forever. Item. It is my Will that my two Sons Barnard and William Adams shall have six Cows and six Calfs and one Bull apiece with their Increase to them & their Heirs forever. Item. It is my Will that all the rest of my personal and moveable Estate shall be appraised &my four Sons Nathaniel, David, Barnard, and William Adams shall have and equal share by the Appraisement. Item. It is my Will that the Moneys of the Crop after Paying for the Buildings of my son William shall go to pay a Bond due to Daniel Townsend of my Son David Adams; if there be as much left; if not to pay as far as it will go. Lastly I constitute ordain and appoint my beloved Sons Nathaniel, David, Barnard, and William Adams to be my Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have here unto set my Hand and Seal this twenty seventh day of November one thousand seven hundred & eighty one.
