Simons, Shadrach (Symons; Shadrack, Shadrick, Shadrak, Sadrack) (d.1801). Father-in-law of Samuel R. Mouzon.
Shadrach Simons resided near the Great Pee Dee River in the vicinity of Britton's Ferry. Through grants (1787-1799), he acquired 6,681 acres in Georgetown District. According to the 1800 federal census, he owned thirty slaves. During the American Revolution , he served in Francis Marion's (1732?-1795) Brigade. Elected to the House, Simons represented Williamsburg election district in the Twelfth General Assembly (1796-1797). Other offices he held included militia captain (ca. 1785-1801), delegate to the state constitutional convention (1790), member of the lower board of commissioners of the Pee Dee River (1791), road commissioner (1797) , and justice of the peace for Georgetown District (1798). He married Elizabeth Britton, widow of Henry Britton, sometime before 6 August 1785 when a notice appeared in the South Carolina Gazette and Public Advertiser. They were the parents of at least three children: Mary (m. Samuel R. Mouzon) and two sons whose names have been lost. * Shadrach Simons died 24 April 1801.
