His English origin as given on the "Lee Family Tree" states that he was the first son of Francis Lee (attorney at law)and Mary Barnell of Barbados, who bore the same Coat of Arms as Harry Lee, one of the Captains of the City of London. Thomas Lee was an early architect/contractor in Charleston. The Thomas Lamboll House at 19 King St. is prime example on his work. He married Mary Giles on April 1, 1733 in Barbados before coming to Charleston in late 1730's. Thomas and Mary are buried at St. Philips (Mary May 27, 1757 and Thomas on August 8, 1769). Thomas Lee is considered the progenitor of the "South Carolina Lee's" as evidenced in the book "The Descendants of Thomas Lee of Charleston, SC 1710-1769" by Thomas Carpenter Read 1963.
