Col. Miles Brewton (1675-) with his parents and two surviving sisters came to South Carolin a in 1684 when he was 9 years old. He became a goldsmith which then embraced all forms of banking. In 170 9 he was captain of one of the two militia companies in Charles Town. In 1717 he was nominated and appointed Powder Receiver for the Province and held this position until his death. He was foreman of the Grand Jury organized in 1718 to try Stede Bonnet (an accomplie of Blackbeard) and his pirate associates. In July 1740, he was appointed on the committee authorized by the General Assembly to investigate the charges against the South Carolina regiment in Oglethorpe's St. Augustine expedition of 1740 and in July, 1741, signed the excellent report made by that committee. He was three times married. The name of the first wife has not been ascertained. His second wife was Susannah Porter, and third wife was Mary (Bellamy) Paine. Col. Miles Brewton died in 1745. By his first wife, he had issue: Robert, Jane, Elizabeth, Ruth, Mary, and Rebecca.
