Our Benjamin Buffington married Mary Mercy Frisdell (or Frissell) and there's a record of that. Here it is:
Historical Society of Delaware, "The Records of Holy Trinity Old Swede's Church, Wilmington, Del., From 1697 to 1773: Translated From the Original Swedish by Horace Burr, With an Abstract of the English Records From 1773 to 1810," Papers of the Historical Society of Delaware, Issue 9 Pg. 701.
[Under heading of 1755, for November]:
"29. Benjamin Buffington and Mercy Frisdell"
Note that the spelling here is "Frisdell." I am unsure where the Frissell came from, but for now, I'm using Frisdell from now on unless that's proven wrong.
I cannot find any proof of when Mary Mercy Frisdell Buffington died. It may have been somewhere around 1776-1777, or even as late as 1780. It APPEARs that Benjamin married again to Anna Catherine Shupp (or Schupp). She was the widow of Rev. soldier Albrecht Deibler and already had several children. The thing is, there is no proof of the marriage other than the widow Deibler showing up in court regarding her late husband's estate with a new husband whose name was Benjamin Buffington. Was this our Benjamin Buffington? I don't know for sure. I haven't seen this court document about Mrs. Deibler and her husband's estate to see if it really identifies B Buffington as her husband. I've just heard about it. I would like to see it. Even if it is our B Buffington and she married him around 1776 or 1777, that would mean that only the last two of B Buffington's kids had her as their mother. Those last two are Elizabeth and John, born around 1788 according to my file, but I don't have proof of their birth years and that needs researched further. The next youngest to them was Levi Buffington, who is my ancestor, and he was born in 1770. No way in hell is is his mother Anna Catherine Shupp Deibler unless she was a bigamist. The lady I am corresponding with claimed that ALL of B Buffington's kids were also Anna Catherine's, and I believe that's hogwash. Lastly, it was John E Buffington (1799-1867, grandson of Benjamin through his son, Elias) who married Susanna Artz. Elias Buffington (son of Ben) married Elizabeth Kissinger. Elizabeth was John E's mother.
