St. Julien R. Childs notes that Noah Serre was granted lot No. 190 in Charles Town on May 9, 1694 and that Noah Serre III began the house which passed to its present owners, the Rutledges, from their ancestor Daniel Horry who in turn had received it from his first wife Judith Serre's dowry.
