Notities over Mary Cordes

May 14th, 1741, Daniel Huger was married for the second time, by virtue of license from the Hon. Lt. Govenor Bull, directed to the Rev. Mr. Daniel Dwight, Minister of St. John's Parish, Berkeley, Berkeley County, South Carolina, to Mrs. Mary Cordes, daughter of Mr. Isaac Cordes, merchant in South Carolina and of Elenor Cocas, her mother.

February 20th, 1741-2, My wife Mary was delivered of her first born child, a son Saturday at 9 o'clock in the morning and was baptized in St. John's Parish, Berkeley, Berkeley County, South Carolina church by the Rev. Mr. Daniel Dwight 16th April 1742 and had for his godfathers and godmothers, his grandfather Mr. Isaac Cordes and his uncle Mr. John Cordes and his aunt Mrs. Esther Cordes and was named Daniel.

March the 19th 1742-3, My wife was delivered of her second son, at five o'clock in the morning at my Limerick plantation, and was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Daniel Dwight and had for his godfathers, my nephews Daniel and Elias Horry and his godmother, my niece Magdalen Horry and was named Isaac.

June 5th 1744, at eleven o'clock at night my wife was delivered of her 3rd son, at my plantation called Limerick, and was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Daniel Dwight the 29th of June after, and had for his godfathers, his granduncles, Mr. Thomas and James Cordes and for his godmother Mrs. Ann Cordes, his aunt was name John.

December 30th 1746, my wife, Mary Huger, was delivered of her fourth son, at four o'clock in the morning and the Lord called her at twelve the same day and lies buried next my first wife. The last son was baptized the same day by the Rev. Mr. Daniel Dwight and had for his godfathers, Dr. William Keith, his uncle, and Miss Judith Travors his godmother and was named Benjamin. I forgot to note that Mr. Peter Simons was the other godfather jointly with Dr. Keith for my son Benjamin.

My wife, Mary Huger, four son, viz-Daniel, Isaac, John and Benjamin. She was piously inclined and endeavored to live according to the precepts of our dear Redeemer Christ, a good wife, a dear mother, a good mistress, a kind neighbor.
