In the Name of God Amen. I Mary Broughton of the City of Charleston in the State of South Carolina, being of Sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding do make and declare this instrument of writing to be my last Will and testament. I give and bequeath nto my daughter Charlotte Broughton my Carriage and four horses, and the following Negro Slaves, Nanny, Lucinda, Juba, Castle & Tom together with the future ifsue and increase of the females thereof to have and to hold the same for the term of her Natural life, and from and immediately after the decease of my said Daughter Charlotte, I give and bequeath the said Negro Slaves and the ifsue and increase of the females as aforesaid unto my grand son Alexander Broughton Motte and his heirs and Afsigns for ever. All the rest and residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever I direct to be divided into three equal Parts, one third of which I give to my daughter Mary Motte and her heirs and Afsigns for ever, one third I give to my daughter Charlotte Broughton and her heirs and Afsigns for ever and the remaining third I give to my grandson Alexander Broughton Motte, and to my granddaughters Elizabeth Motte, Mary Jones Motte and Charlotte Maria Henrietta Motte to be equally divided among them and their heirs and afsigns for ever, share and share alike. I request my Grandson Alexander Broughton Motte to Permit my Negro slaves Luch and Phillis to reside upon his Plantation called the Farm, as long as they live. I hereby confirm and ratify the parol gifts which I have heretofore made of the following negro slaves Vizt. of Patty and her Child to my Daughter Charlotte, of Dublin to my Grandson Alexander, of Clarifsa to my grand daughter Elizabeth, of Chloe to my granddaughter Mary and of Jane to my grandaughter Charlotte. My Negro woman Jane I give to such one of my family as she shall prefer living with; and I do hereby Nominate and appoint my daughters Mary Motte and Charlotte Broughton to be my Executrixes and my grandson Alexander Broughton Motte and my friend Keating Simons Esquire to be the executors of this my last Will and testament. Mary Jones Keating Broughton (ca 1726-1815) who is buried in the chapel of ease cemetery was married to Maurice Keating for a short time before he died ca 1749. Their son's portrait is at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, South Carolina. This son was also named Maurice. Shortly after her husband's death, Mary married Alexander Broughton. Mary and Alexander's daughter, Charlotte Broughton, is also buried in this cemetery. Charlotte apparently never married. Mary and Alexander's daughter, Mary Broughton, married Col. Isaac Motte. Their children, Alexander B. Motte and Elizabeth Motte Haig (wife of Dr. H. Maham Haig) are buried in the chapel of ease cemetery, as well. Mary Broughton Motte's portrait is also at the Gibbes Museum of Art. Mary Jones Keating Broughton purchased Exeter Plantation in 1767; which is now the Berkeley Country Club in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
