In June 28, 1695, he acquired 100 acres and, along with slave, "Sambo", moved to this land on Wantoohan (Wattehan) Creek near the fork of the Santee River. On June 22, 1696, Pierre bought 100 acres adjacent to it. They later abandoned the property. In 1792, Thomas Horry owned that land and pointed out that it still had a Mulberry tree Pierre had planted. Gabriel died as a result of a fall from a scaffold or a roof at about age 45, between 1701 and 1704 . He was reported a "builder". He is referred to as "Gabriel, The Huguenot". There is some inconsistency here in that if Pierre was born in 1664 and Gabriel was two years younger, then Gabriel could not have been "about 45" at the period 1701-04. If, by imprecise wording, the original intent was to indicate that it was Pierre who was two years younger, then Gabriel would have been born about 1662, making him about 40 at the time of his death. Also, it was the custom then to name the first-born son for the father, so there is some reason to think Gabriel might be the elder of the two.
