Henry Peronneau was born between 1728 when his parents were married and 1752, when he was mentioned in the will of his grandfather, Col. Arthur Hall. He lived in St. Philip's Parish, Charleston where he became a successful merchant and was prominent in local affairs, serving as a commissioner and justice of the peace. Unlike other members of the family, Henry Peronneau was an Anglican, and owned a pew in St. Michael's Church. He was elected to the Royal Assembly in 1765, and served as Public Treasurer of the Colony from 1770 to 1776. A staunch loyalist, Henry Peronneau was banished from South Carolina for refusing to take an oath of allegiance to the new government in 1777, and took refuge in London. He returned to Charleston in 1781, but upon evacuation of the British troops in 1782, he returned to England and settled permanently.
Henry Peronneau married on May 14, 1752, Anne Motte, born April 3, 1734, daughter of Jacob Motte and Elizabeth Martin. They apparently had no children. Henry Peronneau died in England on September 9 , 1786, survived by his wife Anne. In his will dated July 29, 1786, and proved November l5, 1786, he left his estate to his wife and to his nieces and nephews. Anne Motte Peronneau died in England in late 1813 or early 1814, "in Southampton-Row, Bloomsbury, in her 80th year".
