Born in Denton, Maryland, a daughter of the late Milton F. and Annie (Bucher) King, her husband, Joseph H. Nies, died November 20, 1993. The youngest of 5 siblings, Ann grew up on a farm in Caroline Co., MD, and attended public school in Ridgely. A graduate of Daleville Academy in VA, she also studied voice and piano at Elizabethtown College, at which time she worked for her aunt at Aunt Sally's Kitchen. Moving to Reading, she met Joe and married in 1935. They purchased their home "Rock Lawn", in Adamstown where they raised their daughters and shared 58 anniversaries. Ann worked for Bollman Hat Company, Adamstown, in the business office and cafeteria. Past president of the Adamstown Woman's Club, Girl Scout committeewoman, founding member of the Ephrata Forsythia Club, member of the Christian Woman's Club, Elderberries Senior Group, she was also instrumental in the organization of the Adamstown Public Library. A 50-year member of Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where she was a choir director and life deacon, she was a charter member of East Cocalico Church of the Brethren, Reamstown, a mission church of the Ephrata congregation. Ann was a creative writer, with poems and stories published in various magazines and newspapers. Known for her gift as a hostess and cook, she also enjoyed playing piano, singing, reading, gardening, traveling, bird watching, an avid "Scrabble" player and being a "Phillies" fan. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ann took great joy in the accomplishments and activities of her family. Surviving are daughters, Carolanne, wife of Bob Buohl, Ephrata; Gretta Ludwig, Lewes, DE; fiancée of Bill Wolter, Greenwood, DE; and Pamela, wife of Larry Potts, Winchester, VA; grandchildren, Debra Antol, Alan Buohl, Andrea Steele, Laura Moss, Susanne Truitt, Carin Potts and Lacey Groves; and great-grandchildren, Jillian, Ryan, Kevin, Mallory, Joshua, Brandon, Wyatt, Nolan, Ian, Amelia, Jace and Wade. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Dr. Samuel J. King, Rev. Rufus B. King, and Rev. Bernard King, a sister, Esther K. Crouse, granddaughter, Jane Elizabeth Buohl, and son-in-law, Andy Ludwig.
