The Isaac Smith Family history states that Peter "became a naturalized citizen of the United States aLong with his father in 1730." This seems contradictory, as the United States did not exist at that time. However, "The Transactions of the Rockefeller Family Association 1905-1909" states the following on page 150:
"In Colonial Record Office, London, England, in the New Jersey Acts, book marked 'C.O. 5 New Jersey No. 1008,' from May, 1722 to August, 1733, you can find the original paper of naturalization of Johann Peter Rockefeller and his two sons under date July 6, 1730, and the only references showing where they came from with the others that were naturalized on the same date was this: 'These were born under the Allegiance of the Emperor of Germany and other Princes in Amity with the crown of Great Britain and have settled themselves and their effects within the province of New Jersey, said petitioners do profess the Protestant religion.' "
The History further states that Peter and his wife had nine children, his third child being Godfrey. Meiser's Northumberland County Family Outlines notes he came from Germany circa 1723 and settled in Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ. Peter received 763 acres of land in Hunterdon Co., NJ, from his father.
Peter is listed in the DAR Patriot Index as a Private in NJ.
Johann Peter Rockenfeller,Jr., was thrifty and successful in the aquiring of the real estate he possessed. At the end of his life he willed land to his sons, except William, to whom he gave money. He was a member of the United First Church [German Reformed], of Amwell, and died in 1787.

Peter married as his first wife Mary Bellis, who was the mother of his 9 children, all born in Copper Hill, Hunterdon County NJ. She may hbe been related to a William Bellis, an early resident of New Jersey who was naturalized in 1730. There was also an Adam Bellis who bought land near Copper Hill in 1743.(see Theodore F. Chambers: Early Germans of New Jersey, Their History, Churches, and Genalogies, Dover, NJ 1895, p. 262)
Peter Rockefeller bought a farm in Hunterdon County in 1743, between Ringoes and Flemington. It was near Copper Hill, and was crossed by the north branch of the Neshanic River. Peter lived on this land for the rest of his life. His home there sonsisted of a basement with cellar and kitchen, a first floor which had two bedrooms and a living room and an open attic on the second floor.
Peter's wife Mary died after 1760, and he married on December 26, 1774 Elizabeth Peterson. In his will, dated March 22, 1787, he bequeathed to her the sum of sixty pounds which "he had agreed with her before marriage that she should have after his death". (Ibid, pp. 351,376)
Peter was a thrifty man, and acquired parcels of real estate totaling over six hundred acres. He left farms in Hunterdon County to each of his four eldest sons, and gave half of the farm on which he lived to each of his two youngest sons. He left another lot of land for the use of his wife, and he left money to his daughters and to his son William. "He must also have been a man of affairs, as we find seven cases between 1746 adn 1766 where Peter Rockefellers name is given either as a witness to a will, administration of an estate, or as having made the estate inventory." (Ibid, pp.354-5, 377-8) He also helped to establish the church in the area, with his father and brother.
Peter Rockefeller and his sons John and Peter fought in the Revolutionary War. The recoreds show that a Peter Rockefeller served as sergeant in Capt. John PHillips Company, 3rd Regt. Hunterdon County NJ. Militia, and was commissioned ensign in the same company, and ensign in the NJ state Troops. Peter's son John was 1st Lieut. in four companies, including one commanded by Capt. John Phillips. It is said that the Militia of NJ "stood Pre-eminent amoung the defenders of the liberties of the people. Hunterdon County was strong in the War, and received congratulations and praise for great loyalty, and for having furnished more soldiers than any other company in NJ." The Rockefellers took part in the Battle of Monmouth NJ. on June 28, 1778, one of the most severly contested battles of the war. Casualties were extremely heavy.
