Nathaniel died of spinal meningitis. He was living on Witherspoon Ave. in Middletown at the time of his death. He moved to Royalton in April, 1861, with his family. He became a barber in 1878, operating a barber shop at 14 Union St., Middletown. He was a charter member of the "Original Harmonic Band of Middletown" that was incorporated December 3, 1868. His obituary in the Middletown Journal February 20, 1892, states: "The funeral was the largest that has been held in town for some time." He is buried in the Middletown Cemetery, Section O - Lot 102, with his family members Margaret, his wife, Nellie, Bertha, and George, his children.

Nathaniel Baker Birth: Feb. 29, 1848 Lykens Dauphin County Pennsylvania, USA Death: Feb. 10, 1892 Middletown Dauphin County Pennsylvania, USA Middletown (PA) Daily Journal Wednesday, February 10, 1892 Nathaniel Baker Dies at His Home on Witherspoon Avenue This forenoon at 10:30 o'clock the family of Nathaniel Baker were called upon to mourn his death at his home on Witherspoon avenue. Mr. Baker was a son a George and Elizabeth Baker who reside in Royalton. He was born Feb. 28th, 1847, in Jackson township, this county. In April, 1861, his parents moved to Royalton and ever since he has been a resident of this place. He was first employed as a laborer until 1878, when he engaged in the barbering business, which occupation he followed ever since. About twenty-one years ago he was married to Maggie Hipple, daughter of Henry Hipple Sr. He was the father of eleven children, ten of whom are living, as follows: Jennie, Bertha, Hallie, Maggie, Clara, Nathan, Percy, Nellie, John and Annie. Two brothers also survive him, John H. and George W., both of whom reside in town. Mr. Baker was at one time a member of the Knights of Pythias. His widow, children and aged parents have the sympathy of their friends. He was known to be a kind husband and indulgent father. His funeral will be held in St. Peters Lutheran church on Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. F. W. Staley will officiate. Interment in the Middletown cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Middletown (PA) Daily Journal February 20, 1892 Funeral of Nathaniel Baker The funeral of Nathaniel Baker was held Sunday afternoon in St. Peters Lutheran church. Services were conducted by Rev. F. W. Staley. The most beautiful floral designs were presented by friends in Lancaster and town, among which was a large cross of roses from the Keystone club. Mrs. Harry Hipple Jr. presented a beautiful wax flower. The bearers were Christian Hershey, John Brendle, Jos. Lutz, Jos. Peters and Samuel Gingerich.
