"Born in Granville Co., N.C." alsoKITTRELL, Charity Alston Dawson, 9 Feb 1836 - 8 Feb 1914. (Dau. John & Martha Hunter Kittrell; alsoHAYES, Georgie K., 1868 - 1930. alsoHAYES, Elizabeth B., 1860 - 1946. also HAYES, John W., 1870 - 1926. alsoHAYES, Charles H., 1873 - 1934. I am writing this up the same way Mr. Fred Hawkins has it listed in "Maury County Tennessee Cemeteries", but I think it is possibly in error. It is my opinion due to the way the tombstone information is presented that all or at least most of the above deceased persons finished this life with the surname Kittrell. However, I am unaware of the relationship of the above persons to one another. If they were siblings then that would explain why it appears two of the three ladies have different surnames than Kittrell (Dawson & Hayes). Their dates do not line up as siblings. Perhaps John M. and Charity are husband and wife and the other four are siblings and children of John M & Charity. Why then does Charity appear to have the maiden name Kittrell. Nevertheless I see no reason here to believe the surname Hayes belongs to Elizabeth B., John W & Charles H. as I think they are Kittrells'. The following information is taken from an undated school census in the NC
Archives in Raleigh for the Epping Forest District (Southern Division).
Although undated, the census is apparently from the 1840s. The handwriting
is not always easy to read and I have done my best using the actual spelling
as best I could read it. Due to the difficulty of transcription and the
original spelling used, I caution the reader that these transcriptions are
imperfect. I would appreciate hearing from anyone having corrections.
