MYRTLE BEACH: Annie C. Dukes, 95, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Grand Strand Healthcare in Socastee.
Mrs. Dukes was born December 8, 1912 in Greenville, N.C., a daughter of the late William Arthur and Mabel Clair Kittrell Cherry. Prior to her retirement, she was a teacher for more than 30 years. For many of those 30 years, Mrs. Dukes taught the first Grade at Lakewood Elementary School in Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Dukes was preceeded in death by her husband, Mack B. Dukes; her son, Jerry Dukes; her brother, Jesse Belmont; her sister, Clara Jane Hardee; and an extended family member, Edith F. Williams.
Mrs. Dukes is survived by her son, Lawton Dukes and his wife, Margie, of Knoxville, Tenn.; her two sisters, Ida Blalock and Rose Harris; her grandson, William Dukes and his wife, Amber, of Las Vegas; and an extended family member, Leroy Cherry.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. in Southeastern Memorial Gardens, North Myrtle Beach, with the Rev. Danny Banks officiating.
