DEKALB — Services for Etta Kinard Gully Smith will be held today at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church with the Revs. Scott Harrell and Dr. Owen Gordon officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, 101, of DeKalb, died Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Mississippi Care Center of DeKalb. She was born on May 28, 1904, and lived all of her life in the Mt. Nebo Community of Kemper County. She was a farmer’s wife, she gardened all of her life and worked on the farm. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of DeKalb Homemaker’s Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jean Dixon and her husband, Ted, of Mt. Nebo; grandchildren, Ted Dixon Jr. of Frisco, Texas, Susan Harrell of Ojai, Calif., Elaine Tisdale of Mt. Nebo, and Patsy Lavassani of Ridgeland; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Rose Smith of Mt. Nebo and her children, Dennis Wesley of Baton Rouge, La. and Laurie McArthur of Mt. Nebo and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Clemons Smith; a son, Thomas Glenn Smith; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Renfroe and a brother, Alvey Gully.
