Carolyn Kittrell Hendrix Ozment, 92, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at the Medical Center of Plano hospital in Plano. Graveside services will be held in at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Fairview Cemetery in Denison.
Carolyn was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Helena, Ark., to Pearson Whitfield Hendrix and Kathleen Kittrell Hendrix. The family moved to Vernon, when her father accepted the controller position with the Vernon Cottonseed Oil Mill.
After Carolyn graduated from Vernon High School, she enrolled in the school of journalism at Oklahoma University in Norman, Okla., where she became a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and met her future husband, Frank Warren Ozment Jr. The were married in Oklahoma City on Jan. 23, 1937, and lived there while Frank completed his pharmaceutical degree.
After Frank's five-year U.S. Army service during World War II, they moved to Denison in 1946, where they co-founded the Bear Drug store. Carolyn was an active participant in the operations of Bear Drug while also devoting her time to raising their two children and being involved in various civic and social organizations. She was a member of Waples Memorial UMC, the Denison Country Club and a charter member of the Denison Service League. After the death of her husband of 62 years in April 1999, she moved to Plano to be near her children.
Carolyn is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Pat and Jim Eubank and Sharon and B.J. Hall, both of Dallas; her four grandchildren and their spouses, Lynn and Jeff McIntosh of McKinney, Todd and Tracy Garner of Denison, Jenifer and Jim Welch of Round Rock and Courtney and Clinton Dorris of Houston; and her nine great-grandchildren, Nicole and Trevor McIntosh, Tiffany, Taylor and Toby Garner, Jamie Welsh and Cody Camden and Kittrell Dorris.
Memorials may be made to Waples Memorial UMC, the Denison Public Library, or the charitable organization of your choice.
