COLUMBIA - Services for Evelyn Kittrell Sutton, 81, of Columbia, SC, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at St. Andrews Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Walter Howell. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Baptist Church Music Ministry.
Mrs. Sutton, widow of Charles W. Sutton, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Born in Orangeburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Donny B. Kittrell and Adluh Barr Kittrell . A lifetime area resident, she was an active member of St. Andrews Baptist Church and had retired from the S.C. Highway Department. Additionally, she was inducted into the S.C. Folk Art Hall of Fame. "Mrs. Evelyn," as she was affectionately known, enjoyed singing and yodeling and was named the WIS Cowgirl Sweetheart.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lorri Sutton of Irmo; sister, Dolly Cunningham Simons of West Columbia; grandchildren, Shadd Sutton, Alexis Sutton, Bryan Hause, and Alan Hause; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jeanne Sutton, three sisters and one brother.
